Raffle winner Dewi Mason takes seat alongside Darren Underwood at Epynt

HEREFORDSHIRE Motor Club’s Welsh Marches Mini Epynt stages on Sunday has a strong field of 80 cars, ranging from an Impreza WRC through to a Hillman Imp.
But 2011 event winner Darren Underwood, who will be leading the way in his 1600 Vauxhall Nova, will have a new co-driver.
His wife and regular co-driver Sue Underwood has been co-opted onto the organising committee, so they have raffled the opportunity of sitting alongside Darren for the day, in the aid of Wales Air Ambulance and the Macmillan Renton Unit at Hereford County Hospital.
“Nearly £700 has been raised and collections on the day will hopefully boost that grand total,” said Darren. Winner Dewi Mason from Blackwood, Gwent has some navigating experience and so will not be totally in at the deep end.
“I’m so pleased to win this raffle, I don’t usually win anything,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to competing in car number 1 alongside Darren.”
Apex Motor Parts of Rockfield Road, Hereford are sponsoring the event for a third year, and additionally will provide thank you gifts for the volunteer marshals.
Mark Lively, Clerk of the Course, said: “We really appreciate the support from Apex Motor Parts, they are a strong motor factors’ business in Herefordshire and Shropshire, and their involvement is valued by the club.”
Forty-five competitive miles will face the crews with Herefordshire Motor Club representatives including Theo Bengry and Les Forsbrook (Ascona), Brian Davis and Ian Davis (Escort), Pete Lewis and Alan Jones (Anglia) and James Young and Ben Rolph making their debut in a Peugeot 306.
The action starts at 9am and continues throughout the day. Marshals are still required if anyone wises to get involved — no experience is necessary.
