Age no barrier as Railway win Hereford Snooker League title
5:30pm Wednesday 6th June 2012 in Sport
RAILWAY ‘C’ have proved that there is no substitute for experience after carrying off the title in Division Two of the Hereford Snooker League.
The six-strong squad of Bill Waygood, Paul Jones, Geoff Lisseman, Pat Tulk, Bernard Hemming and Spike Turner have a combined age of 422, which makes them an average of 70.3 years old.
Railway used their many years of experience to take the championship ahead of Police ‘A’.
In Division One, the Bernard Hemming Trophy for the league winners went to Farmers ‘C’ with The Reds clinching runners-up spot.
Farmers ‘C’ completed a double by collecting the Hereford Times Challenge Cup in the knock-out competition and, in doing so, inflicted a twin disappointment on Police ‘A’, who again had to be content with runners-up spot.
The trend continued in the singles competition where Police’s Geoff Mayor had to give best to Dave Hantschar of Farmers C, and also in the pairs where Mayor and his playing partner Glyn Biffen were beaten by Stuart Roberts and Stuart Donald of the Miller Boys.
