Strong performance from Hereford & County AC at Leamington Spa

HEREFORD & County AC’s 12-strong team produced some good performances at Leamington in the second meeting of the Midland Track and Field League Division Seven with the women leading the way with some fine displays.

Ruth Wells won three events, the shot putt with 8.68m, the discus with 27.36m and the javelin with 25.72m, and was second in the hammer.

The hammer was won by Hannah Barnes with a throw of 23.57m.

She also backed Wells up in the shot with 5.40m for second B and in the discus with 17.10m for first B.

In the Javelin B, Jade Williams won with a throw of 22.07m and also had success on the track with first B in the 400m in 1.16.5, and second B in the 800m in 3.01.9.

In the A races, Clara Evans won the 400m in 1.04.4, was second in the 800m in 2.30.6 and won the 1500m in 5.39.2.

Sarah Jones also had two wins, clearing 2.40m in the pole vault and jumping 8.56m in the triple jump.

She then had a second in the long jump with 4.13m and in the high jumped with 1.35m.

Imogen Wilding, competing for the first time in this league, was second B in the long jump and finished fourth in the 100m and 200m.

Another debutant, Coralie Graville, was fourth in the 100m B and fifth in the 200m B.

In the men's events, Bruce Khumalo had three second places in the 200m, the long jump and the triple jump.

He also ran 12.3 in the 100m for third.

Tom Stokes was fifth B in the 200m, fourth A in the 400m, third A in the 800m, fourth A in the 1500m and fifth B in the javelin.

Justin Williams threw 28.91m for second A in the hammer while Kevin Barnes was third in both the 3000m and the 3000m steeplechase.
