HEREFORD’S Roger Chilman finally took his maiden national rally victory on last Saturday’s SJR Plains National Rally in the Securcom/Kuhmo Tyres Subaru S9 WRC.

But it was a hard-fought triumph, especially after the disappointment of retiring on the previous two rallies.

Chilman emerged victorious by just 12 seconds with co-driver Brian Thomas who completed an unusual family double.

Thomas enjoyed his first vally victory as a co-driver on the Plains rally 30 years ago in 1982 when he was sittting alongside Chilman's father Roger Chilman snr.
