FINE all-round performances by Greg Leighton and former Sri Lanka Test star Dinusha Fernando helped Bromyard up to second place in the Worcestershire League Division One after a conclusive win over fancied Astwood Bank.

Leighton (2-31) collected the prized wicket of former Gloucestershire player Steve Adshead for just six after Bromyard had won the toss.

And Fernando followed up by taking 6-52 as the visitors were dismissed for 189 with just one ball of their allotted 50 overs remaining.

Bromyard slipped to 26-3, in reply, before Leighton and Fernando joined forces in a club record unbeaten stand of 166 for the fourth wicket.

Leighton struck three sixes and eight fours in his unbeaten 64 with Fernando’s 116-ball innings producing four sixes and eight fours as he progressed to 79 not out.

Colwall notched their first Division One success after a good bowling performance brought a six-wicket win at Worcester.

David Bassett (4-38), Russell Boatman (3-39) and James Gerrish (3-48) all played leading roles as Worcester were restricted to 164.

Rory Jones (56 not out), Dan Head (35) and Dan McKay all batted well as Colwall eased home with more than five overs to spare.

Burghill & Tillington have gone second in Division Two after a conclusive 146-run away triumph over Alvechurch & Hopwood.

Opener Jack Hale led the way with an impressive 120 with Ed Oliver (42), skipper Tim Walsh (33 no) and Byron Newton (31) all chipping in as the visitors reached 252-9.

Kiwi paceman Newton proved irresistible as Alvechurch responded, collecting 6-16 from nine overs as the home side subsided to 106 all out.

Ross got their Division Four programme off to a winning start with a 37-run win over Barnards Green 3rd.

Harry Porter, who had earlier contributed an unbeaten 25 to the Ross total of 178-9, picked up 6-36 to complete an excellent allround day.

Canon Frome struggled with the bat in their first Division Five outing with none of their players reaching double-figures as they were bowled out for 54, of which 24 were extras, in reply to Astwood Bank 3rd’s 126.
