TWO young Much Marcle kart aces are making a strong start to the new MSA British Superkart Championship season.

Toby Davis, aged 20, and his brother Ben, 19, are both in the top five in the championship table after competing at Oulton Park and Silverstone.

The brothers are racing 250cc superkarts capable of speeds up to 130mph and delivering lap times approaching those of Formula Three.

In the opening round at Oulton Park, Ben led both races for several laps finishing second in race one but retiring from race two with a seized engine, while elder brother Toby finished third for both races.

Toby improved his standing in the second round at Silverstone where, from a large grid of 41, he secured second place in both races despite starting from 17th on the grid for race one.

Ben achieved third and fifth place finishes having suffered a series of engine problems during practice.

Toby finished race two just 0.2 seconds behind reigning national champion, Paul Platt, who has won all four races to date.

Average speeds around the Silverstone National circuit were around 102 mph and both Toby and Ben (along with three other drivers) broke the existing lap record with times of around 57.6 seconds over the 1.6-mile circuit.

With eight races remaining in the championship, Toby is in second place and Ben fifth overall in the national championship table.

On-board video from both Toby and Ben can be found on the video sharing website Youtube by searching for “Davis Superkart”.

The team are looking for a local sponsor to support the youngsters’ progress in these prestigious national racing events, some of which are televised.

Anyone interested in helping should call team manager Richard Davis on 07766 134680.

•HEREFORD driver Lee Hackett stormed to victory in the fourth round of the 2012 British Rental Kart Championship at Herefordshire Raceway.

Hackett qualified on pole for the AFinal after breaking the circuit lap record in the heats.

While the rest of the field battled, Hackett maintained a comfortable gap to second place, scoring his first race win in the BRKC.

He also moved to the top of the Overall Championship table, with a three-point cushion over secondplaced Michael Weddell.
