Trophy game at Edgar Street
1:43pm Tuesday 15th May 2012 in Sport By Bill Tanner
Young Kai Barnett coolly curled a free kick into the net to strike silver for Leominster Minors under 8s with just minutes of the Daniel Cooper Memorial trophy game left at Edgar Street last Sunday.
Kai’s strike was all that separated the Minors from FC Phoenix when the whistle when time was called on two strong sides and a keenly contested match.
But Jo Bufton had a big say in the final score too, clearing a goal-bound Phoenix free-kick off the line with seconds to spare – returning a favour to his keeper Aaron Warner who made a key save to keep Phoenix out with five minutes on the clock.
The win for the Minors was made all the sweeter by travel in a black and yellow stretch limo hired for the team for the day.
