Pegasus strike late to claim West Midlands League draw at Shawbury
4:40pm Wednesday 25th April 2012 in Sport
Shawbury United 1 Pegasus Juniors 1.
AN injury-time strike by Keith Jones salvaged a West Midlands League Premier Division point for Pegasus.
Jones stepped up to curl home a free-kick after Jimmy Moreton had needlessly been brought down by Harry Murphy.
In the early stages, Ross Powell had fired home after good work by Paul Allam and Will Loughman only for the strike to be ruled out for offside.
But Juniors’ keeper Mikel Corbisier had also been busy with three fine first-half saves preventing the home side from taking the lead.
In the 53rd minute, however, the keeper was beaten when Liam Dunphy bundled the ball home following a corner.
After this, Pegasus stepped up the tempo with Paul Jenkins firing a good chance wide.
And, despite plenty of possession, it had seemed that the visitors would return empty-handed until Jones’ late intervention.
