Rob Purdie says 1-1 draw with Cheltenham Town 'is story of Hereford United's season'

HEREFORD United’s Rob Purdie felt today’s failure to build on their lead against Cheltenham Town was the story of the Bulls' season.

Delroy Facey headed United in front in the first half but they couldn't find a second goal.

Town levelled early in the second period and pinned United back for long spells.

“We would probably have taken a point before the game but again we were disappointed to lose the lead,” he said.

“We started off really well but we went off the boil for the last 10 to 15 minutes of the first half.

“We felt we had chances to get the second goal and that’s been our problem all season – we can’t seem to get that second goal.

“To concede three or four minutes into the second half, and playing up the slope and against a good team, we struggled a bit."

“We defended really well but we didn’t have the quality today to try and push the game to them in the second half.“

Ryan Green thought a draw was a fair result and was delighted for United’s goal-scorer Facey.

“It was a good ball in from Bruno and it was a great header from Delroy. He’s good in the air and he deserved that goal.“

Green had a bloodied nose in the first half after a tangle with an opposition player.

“I thought it was broken but it’s going to be bruised,” he said.

“That’s what it’s like when you’re playing at centre-half. I am happy to play anywhere along the back and I don’t mind where I play as long as we get the points.”
