Full time: Bromyard Town 1 Gornal Athletic 2
MANAGEMENT duo Geoff Woodward and Clive Harris will be pleased with Bromyard’s battling display this afternoon against the high-fliers at Delahay Meadow.
Second-bottom Bromyard dug deep against the title-chasers in this West Midlands League Premier Division match which ended in defeat for the hosts.
Two deflected strikes put paid to Town’s hopes to pull away from the bottom of the table.
Matt Weyman scored the decisive goal for Gornal five minutes after the break when his deflected shot looped over Dan Hollings and into the net.
Hollings kept Bromyard in the game, making fine saves from Marvin Nisbett and Pete Wood in a second period in which the hosts were pinned back for long spells.
At times, Bromyard had seven men behind the ball and defended very stoutly.
Gornal, however, will be disappointed after squandering a host of second-half chances.
The skilful Ben Evans beat the off-side trap to haul Town level in the 25th minute after Gornal had put the hosts under heavy pressure in the early stages of the match.
Gornal took the lead in the 14th minute when Lee Wherton’s deflected drive flew past Hollings.
