DEFENDER Janos Kovacs waved to the Hereford fans like an orchestra conductor after heading in their second goal at Cheltenham.
“I was happy with the goal – I am a big lad and it’s always nice to score – especially on derby day,” said the Hungarian, who took back the captain’s armband.
“I saw their keeper and I felt that I needed to challenge him in the air because I knew that no-one was behind him on the line.”
He added: “In the past, I have always had funny celebrations after my goals and I have had jokes from the lads about my celebrations.
“When I score a goal, I always seem to lose my head and I just try to enjoy it.”
It was Kovacs’ first goal since the opening day of the season and he also gave an outstanding defensive display.
Kovacs was sporting two black eyes for the post-match chat - he had added to the one he picked up in a midweek clash against Macclesfield.
“I had an unlucky first half of the season because I was out with a knee operation and then I came back for 20 minutes and landed on my shoulder,”
he said.
“I am enjoying myself of the pitch again and I think the team performances are getting better and we’re working very hard.
“I am enjoying things in Hereford too and I have found some good Hungarian people in the city.”
