TWO departed Bulls got their new careers with Championship clubs off to a start with draws on Saturday.

Lennie Lawrence, who is now the assistant manager at Crystal Palace, watched his new side draw 0-0 at home to Bristol City.

And Mathieu Manset made a half-hour appearance as a second-half substitute for Reading who were held 1-1 at home by Hull City.

Manset completed his move to the Madjeski Stadium last Friday in a deal which brought the Bulls a downpayment, followed by add-ons which could take the fee beyond the £440,000 Hereford received for Darren Peacock.

While United were reluctant to see the Frenchman go, ultimately they had no choice.

"Mathieu made it clear earlier in the week that his future was not with Hereford,” said vice-chairman Tim Russon.

"That moved the deal forward because he is out of contract in the summer and the deal that we have done is better than we were likely to conclude with a tribunal."

Lawrence has left the club, on good terms, after less then six weeks in his role as technical director.

He has been brought in by Palace to work alongside their new manager Dougie Freedman who is in his first managerial job.

"We’ve enjoyed having Lennie onboard these past few weeks but sadly he’s been made an offer that he couldn’t refuse and one that we couldn’t get near to matching,"

explained chairman David Keyte.
