Pegasus Juniors 2 Old Woodstock Town 4

PEGASUS conceded three goals in the last 13 minutes to suffer a disappointing Hellenic League Premier Division home defeat this afternoon.

The Hereford club looked on course for only their third league win this season when goals from Chris Mortlock and Matt Maturi put them 2-1 ahead after 71 minutes.

However, the Oxfordshire club hit back with two quick-fire strikes from Luke Ingram and then sealed their triumph with a fourth goal in the 86th minute.

Former Hereford United boss Colin Addison was in the crowd at Old School Lane.

Old Woodstock made the early running and Rhys Denton and Ingram rattled the Pegasus woodwork in the opening 20 minutes.

Denton’s well-struck shot clipped the outside of a post and then Ingram’s rising effort hit the underside of the bar before being cleared to safety by Hayden Rust.

Lowly Pegasus survived the early barrage and took the lead in the 36th minute.

Skipper Mortlock collected a through-ball from strike partner Daryl Bayliss and held off a defender’s challenge before sliding his shot past visiting goalkeeper Dan Smith.

Pegasus goalkeeper Liam Brewer made a couple of decent stops in the first half and he kept out an angled drive from Corey Forbes two minutes into the second period.

However, Old Woodstock levelled seven minutes into the second half.

The lively Denton raced on to Ben Hutter’s long ball from the back and drilled a shot inside Brewer’s near post.

Pegasus defender Andy Mowen made a vital block to keep out Forbes’ goal-bound effort on the hour and then Ingram flashed wide of the far post.

But Pegasus, to their credit, rallied and regained the lead in the 71st minute.

The hard-working Bayliss headed a right-wing corner against the bar and the ball bounced down for Matt Maturi who prodded home from a yard out.

The setback appeared to spur the visitors into action and they drew level in the 77th minute.

Ingram ran on to Jack Dumell’s through-ball, which cut open the Pegasus defence, and beat Brewer with a low drive.

Ingram grabbed his second goal two minutes later, firing in from the edge of the box, and then Dumell’s 25-yard strike confirmed the visitors’ victory.
