Hereford United's Hungarian skipper Janos Kovacs found a home from home to tuck in to a pre-big match meal this week.

Kovacs, who will celebrate his 25th birthday on Saturday by leading the Bulls against newly promoted Oxford United at Edgar Street, was treated to the Hungarian special of goulash at the city's Left Bank Restaurant.

The Head Chef Gabor Katona is a fellow countryman and four of his chefs along with two kitchen porters all hail from Hungary so they were only too pleased to cook up something special for Janos.

" Goulash is one of my favourite meals and my mum cooked it every week for me when I was a boy," said the United skipper. "It's something I miss so to find Gabor and his team right here in Hereford is such a treat."

Gabor has been running the kitchen at the Left Bank for the last six years and was thrilled to be cooking for the United star.

" There's nothing quite like a traditional goulash and it did my heart good to see Janos tucking in . Hopefully it will give him extra strength to lead the Bulls on a charge this Saturday," said Katona.

As for Kovacs, he's put his birthday party on hold until Saturday night when he's also hoping to celebrate United's first home win of the new season.
