LUCTONIANS' debut in the National Leagues ended in disappointment with a 20-18 home defeat by Leicester Lions.

And Hereford's campaign also got off to a losing start when theur were beaten 36-20 at Newport.

But the county's footballers enjoyed a good day.

Westfields have moved up to third place in the Midland Alliance table after beating Dunkirk 2-1.

Pegasus also had a good day, markin the ending of the tenure of Steve Griffiths as manager with a 3-2 win over Wokingham and Emmbrook.

Leominster continued their perfect start with a 2-1 success at Warstone Wanderers Reserves.

The county's cricketers did not fare so well, however, with Brockhampton's promotion prospects all but disappearing after a defeat by Wombourne.

Eastnor remain at the top of their division but, after a defeat by Sutton Coldfield, could now be overhauled by two other clubs if results go against them in their final game next weekend.
