HEREFORD United boss Simon Davey was pleased with his side's 2-0 win this afternoon over Ledbury Town in the HFA Senior Cup.

Davey said: “You want to win every game and we’ve won the game. We have come through unscathed and everyone got a run-out apart from four or five. The trialists put themselves in the shop window and they worked very hard and we ended up with the right result. All the trialists are trying their hardest to get a contract and it was a great workout. It was great for the fans because it was a local fixture. We want to be back in the community and we want supporters from this area."

Goals in both half from trialist Jamie Sheldon and substitute Mathieu Manset gave United manager Davey a victory in his first game in charge.

Davey said: “We will have a few more trialists coming in next week and I will have to make decisions on the players already on trial. We will have additions between now and the start of the season but there’s nothing in the immediate future."

United missed chances as Ledbury tired in the final 15 minutes.

Davey said: “I would have been a bit more pleased if my strikers, when they came on, were a bit more ruthless. Hopefully in a Football League situation they will be a bit more selfish.”
