Free passage to final for Leominster Town

Leominster Town had a free passage into the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Journal Trophy Final when their semi-final opponents Ewyas Harold were unable to raise a side and conceded the tie.

Leominster will now meet Pegasus Reserves in the final at Broomy Hill next month after the city side eliminated Ledbury Town Reserves 4-0 at Old School Lane in the other semi-final tie.

The most refreshing win in the Premier Division came at Holme Lacy where the home side got the better of Hinton for the second week in succession to get their league campaign up and running with a 2-1 victory.

Having beaten the Broomy Hill side in the Strongbow Cup the previous weekend, Jeremy Spencer put them ahead in the first half. Tom Dawson came off the bench to score Hinton’s equaliser, but Chris Price gave Holme Lacy their first Premier Division win at the death.

It could have been even better for Holme Lacy as they pushed Westfields Reserves all the way in midweek as well, before going down 4-3 at allpay.park.

They trailed 4-1 at one stage, but goals from Carl Jenkins, Spencer and Stuart Mills closed the gap. The villagers struck the woodwork twice in a final fling.

Wellington Reserves gained a narrow 1-0 win at Bromyard Town Reserves to stay on the tails of the leading pack.

Wellington had the bigger proportion of the chances, but Bromyard can count themselves unlucky to lose a close encounter as they missed a penalty, and saw two efforts scrambled off the line, the one after the ball had come back off the bar and struck Dan Tecza, the Wellington keeper.

Mike Olive cut inside to fire home the winner in the first half.

Lads Club and Pegasus Reserves shared the points when they drew 2-2 at the County Ground.

In a flowing game Dan Brazier stabbed the ball home after the Reserves keeper had failed to clear a Nathan Collings effort to put Lads Club one up. Collings restored the home side’s advantage after Pegasus had equalised.

They were unable to hold on and Pegasus drew level for a second time when they scored from the rebound after keeper Steve Bell had blocked an effort.

In the other game, Kington Town dented Ledbury Town Reserves title hopes with a 2-0 win at Mill Street.
