A FORMER Hereford United goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in Newport County’s title-clinching win at Spytty Park on Monday night, writes IAN MORGAN.
Glyn Thompson gave a competent display as County sealed the Blue Square South title with seven league matches left after a 2-0 victory over Havant & Waterlooville.
Thompson, who spent the 2006-07 season at Edgar Street as back-up for Wayne Brown, made some important punches as Havant threatened from long throws.
A brace from the impressive Sam Foley gave Hereford’s old foes an historic victory which was celebrated by a record crowd of 4,221 at the Newport Stadium.
Another ex-United player, Martyn Giles, was an unused substitute for County who return to the Blue Square Premier after 21 years.
Ex-Pegasus Juniors masseur Jon Evans is the assistant physio at Newport who will be keen to keep hold of manager Dean Holdsworth.
