HEREFORD driver Roger Chilman and his Ludlow co-driver Andrew Sankey finished an excellent third overall, 1st group N, in the Malcolm Wilson Rally.

The event was the second round of the BTRDA Series and the Cockermouth-based event offered 45 miles in the classic Lake District Forests.

Chilman was hoping to build on his excellent result on the opening championship round in the Wyedean.

Ice and snow greeted crews on the opening loop of four stages, making condtions extremely difficult, but the Subaru Impreza got off to a superb start to hold second overall at service.

But with 17 miles of Grisedales South&North next Chilman knew he would lose out to the more powerful WRC cars, and took the final run through Greystoke steadily to arrive back in Cockermouth pleased with the result.

"We are pleased with the resul;we had to do all the work in the first four stages as we would lose out in Grisedale," said Chilman.

"I drove the last stage like a granny, as I knew third was ours barring a mistake, but conditions were tricky."

The duo now lead the series after two rounds.
