Juniors luck is out at Oxford

12:30pm Thursday 11th March 2010

Oxford City Nomads 3 Pegasus Juniors 0.

POOR finishing and bad luck brought about Pegasus’ downfall in the Premier Division of the FTL Futbol Hellenic League.

The Hereford side produced their best display since the enforced mid-winter break and the final scoreline flattered Nomads.

Pegasus should have taken the lead in the ninth minute when Jamie Cuss shot into the side-netting with the unmarked Cory Hyde in a good position.

They also had opportunities in the 23rd minute when Hyde had an effort blocked and Ben Price’s header was hooked off the line.

Nomads took the lead in the 36th minute from a controversial penalty decision after goalkeeper Stuart Turpin was ruled to have pushed an attacker.

Turpin almost made amends when he got a hand to Daniel Jones’ spot-kick but could not keep it out.

Pegasus attacked after the interval and home goalkeeper Milan Barisic saved from Chris Mortlock, while Richard Harrison shot wide and Anthony Robbins skimmed the bar.

Mortlock then collected a long pass from Cuss and forced his way into the box but no-one could make contact with his cross.

Nomads’ Matt Blenford struck a post in the 58th minute before Jamie Brooks doubled their lead two minutes later.

Pegasus continued to threaten.

Cuss flashed a shot narrowly wide, Mortlock’s dipping effort struck the bar and then Nomads survived a goalmouth scramble.

Mortlock also fired wide in stoppage time before Nomads sealed their triumph when Brooks netted a third goal.
