Northern raiders grab Hereford's sevens silverware

BARNARD Castle won Hereford Cathedral School’s 2010 Marches Sevens rugby tournament at Wyeside.

Castle scored two late tries to beat Millfield School 26-21 in the semi-finals and then overcame Christ College Brecon, 17-5, in the final.

Brecon had reached the final after a 14-5 semi-final success over Plymouth, while they secured a 21-14 win over Glantaf in the last-eight.

Monmouth School triumped in the Plate Competition after beating London Oratory, 25-16, in the final.

Hereford Cathedral School’s playing interest in the competition ended when they lost 24-5 to London Oratory in the semi-finals of the Plate. Cathedral opened their account with a 12-5 defeat to Worth School in a Group A match.

They bounced back to beat Glantaf 12-10 in their second pool match but failed to qualify for the third round of the main event.

Cathedral recorded a 24-12 success over Llanhari in the quarter-finals of the Plate before losing to London in the last-four. There were some mouth-watering clashes in Sunday’s tournament, including Kings Worcester’s 14-7 win over RGS Worcester.
