Hereford United's match with Macclesfield will go ahead

12:25pm Thursday 4th March 2010

Hereford United’s match with Macclesfield Town at Edgar Street on Saturday will be going ahead.

The League 2 clash had been in doubt following the death of Macclesfield’s manager Keith Alexander.

Alexander died at home after Macclesfield’s game at Notts County on Tuesday night.

“Away from his family, football was his life,” Macclesfield’s assistant manager Gary Simpson told the club’s official website.

“He would have expected us to go to Hereford and put on a show as if it was any other game.”

Simpson added: “Of course it is going to be a tough and emotional day. And I suspect a few tears will be shed.

“But having spoken to his son Matt, he is adamant that his dad would have wanted the game to go-ahead and it is only right that we respected his family wishes.”

United chairman Graham Turner knew Alexander well and midfielder Jamie Tolley played for Macclesfield last season.

Saturday’s match kicks off at 3pm.
