GAVIN McCallum fired Hereford United to an important League 2 win over Lincoln City at Edgar Street on Tuesday night.
The Canada under-20 international struck a goal in each half to move the Bulls up to 18th place in the table, nine points clear of the drop zone.
McCallum was one of five changes made by boss John Trewick and all played their part in a deserved, and confidence-restoring, win.
Adam Bartlett, while having little to do in goal, made one vital save just after the break.
There was an assured debut from loanee Paul Downing alongside the determined Darren Jones in the heart of the defence while local boys Sam Gwynne and Tyler Weir shone at full-back.
James McQuilkin covered lots of ground in midfield, dovetailing well with Kenny Lunt, who played simple but effective passes and was always available for the ball.
Marc Pugh’s brilliant skills set up the second goal while front duo of Craig King and Leon Constantine, who rattled a post with a fierce shot, never stopped working.
Star of the show, however, was McCallum, who battled away and took his goals well to lift his tally to four goals in four League starts.
