Cross will try to increase sport and active recreation for people with a disability through a dedicated programme of activity opportunities, education and mentoring.

Cross is a fitness instructor with 25 years’ experience in the industry.

She be working with local clubs and groups and plans to integrate disabled people into sports with the support of training and mentoring.

She will also deal with people who want to progress in a chosen sport in a volunteering or officiating role.

“The sport can be anything from fishing to football and I will work with people on a one-to-one basis,” she said.

“If somebody knows of anyone with a disability, either mental or physical, who would like to take up sport, they can drop me a line.”

Penwarden, 22, is working with Herefordshire Sport for two days a week and is based at Leominster Leisure Centre.

She takes over from Penny Southwood who is supporting Penwarden in the project being delivered by Halo Leisure in partnership with Herefordshire Sport.

Penwarden is a former England Under-17 women’s cricketer and plays football for Worcester City Women.

She wants to hear from Herefordshire people of all ages who compete at a national, regional and high county level in their chosen sport.

She will be working closely with schools and clubs and helping elite athletes access established facilities and services.

Penwarden is also responsible for the administration of Halo’s FANS (Free Access to National Sportspeople) scheme.
