Quickfire double moves Leominster level at the top

Leominster Town completed a quickfire double over Holme Lacy to move level on points with Ledbury Town Reserves at the top of the Premier Division of the Hereford Times Herefordshire League.

The two sides met in a midweek clash under lights at Town’s Bridge Street Sports Centre and the home side recorded a 6-2 victory.

Holme Lacy battled well throughout but Leominster carried too much firepower and picked up the points after leading 3-1 at the break.

Terry Williams and Sam Bowen shared four of the goals while Mark Rusling and Jamie Edwards, with his first goal of the season, completed the Town scoring.

Luke Winter and Darren Pugh scored for Holme Lacy.

When the sides met again at the villagers' headquarters four days later, Leominster ran out 7-0 winners to make it nine wins in 10 games, an identical record to Ledbury.

Ledbury were scheduled to meet Bromyard in the Journal Trophy, but the game was called off due to the ice and snow, as were the other three planned league fixtures.

The pitch conditions were not easy at Holme Lacy either, but a fully fit-again Kenny Styles notched a treble.

Williams repeated his brace in the earlier fixture and younger squad members Jack Brazier and Sam Pearson both came off the bench to claim a goal apiece.

Ewyas Harold kept their title hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Fownhope.

They are four points behind the leading pair, but do have a game in hand.

Harold were on top for periods of the game and created the majority of the chances but Fownhope, who had keeper Neil Marshall in outstanding form, made them work hard for the win.

Matt Pitt scored the winner late in the first half following good work by Danny Johns and Willie Lindesay.

Fownhope were hampered by the sending-off of Rob Taylor in the second period.

But the home side were unlucky not to get a share of the points when a goal-bound shot from Sam Pratley deflected off the heel of his team-mate Matt Davies into the safe hands of Harold keeper Daniel Taylor.
