Wellington 2 Dudley Town 0.
GOALS in each half from Ryan Daw and Andy Price fired Wellington to an impressive home win in the FTL Futbol West Midlands League Premier Division.
Wellington defended strongly, particularly in the opening 20 minutes of the second half, to secure a memorable triumph.
Craig Green missed an early chance to put Wellington ahead when he shot straight at the Dudley goalkeeper.
But Wellington’s young stopper Matt Eden needed to be alert to tip away an effort from a visiting striker.
Wellington took the lead in the 20th minute after a slick move involving Will Perkins, Wayne McNeil and Matt Williams.
Williams eventually pulled the ball back to Daw who side-footed into the corner of the net.
Paul Jones blazed over for Wellington after being sent clear by Williams and then Green made a superb goal-saving tackle to keep the villagers ahead.
Price almost gave Wellington a second on the stroke of half time but his volley was well saved by the Dudley goalkeeper.
Dudley started the second half strongly but Dale Withers, Will Perkins, James Cartwright and Green were outstanding in Wellington’s backline.
The home side withstood the onslaught and notched their second goal through Price after a slick move involving Aaron Morgan.
Substitute Mike Olive nearly bagged a third goal for Wellington when he met Cartwright’s cross but headed narrowly wide.
