Waldron finishes in sixth

HEREFORDSHIRE’S Sarah Waldron finished sixth at the Midland Cross Country Championships in Stafford.

Waldron put an injury-plagued 12 months behind her to secure sixth place in last Saturday’s women’s race at Stafford Common.

The Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers athlete finished in 33.26 in a race won by Charnwood’s Gemma Steele in 31.35.

“I’m still nowhere near my best but, after having a year doing very little due to injury, my coach was very happy with my progression,” said Waldron.

“This isa big year for me because 2009 was such a setback with injury after injury and my finals at university.

“Mentally, I am now tougher as an athlete and it’s great to be back in the county training hard with my invaluable Hereford-shire support base.”

Waldron paid tribute to Roy Minter, Ben Harwood, Vic Tarrant, Halo Leisure and thePoint4 for their help and support.

She will be competing at the Herefordshire Cross Country Championships on Sunday and at the English nationals in Leeds on February 27.
