Brimfield club continuing to go from strength to strength

BRIMFIELD & Little Hereford Bowls Club had plenty to celebrate when they held their annual presentation dinner at Cadmore Lodge.

“It has been another impressive year for Brimfield,” said Jan Williams, President of Herefordshire Ladies Bowling Association, as she proposed the toast to the club.

In particular she drew attention to the fact that seven of the ladies from Brimfield, Helen Skinner, Sheila Ingram, Karen Tandler, President Jan Williams, Barbara Griffiths, Josie Ward, Jennie Cole and Jill Bowen, had won through to represent Herefordshire in the National Finals at Leamington in six out of the seven competitions held.

Club chairman Howard Turberfield welcomed members and their guests and expressed his pleasure at seeing so many club members participating in the activities of all club sections throughout the season.

The Thursday afternoon roll-up-and-play group, the Strollers, had been well supported, as had both flat and crown green sections.

And club competitions had all been well-subscribed and closely-contested.

“It is particularly pleasing to see such a wide spread of members amongst the cup winners,” said Turberfield.

Ashley Edwards had a particularly strong season, taking the men's singles and the Arthur Edwards Trophy, as well as partnering Chris Wait to win the Tandler Pairs.

Ladies' singles winner was Barbara Griffiths while the Millennium Plate was won by Geoff Humphreys.

Richard Griffiths, Doug Turner and Karen Tandler took the John Collett Triples title while the Cecil O’Boyle Shield went to Hubert Wall, Chris Wait and Dennis Fletcher.

Howard Turberfield and Helen Skinner were impressive winners of the Barnett Bowl.

And in the county men's league, Brimfield were runners-up in their Division.
