Ross gain 10 wins at Ironbridge regatta


ROSS Rowing Club secured 10 wins at the two-day Ironbridge Regatta.

Boris Darcy, Steve Randal, Mat Taylor and Richard Brooks kicked off the club’s success with Ellie Blackwood coxing the intermediate 2 coxed fours.

Blackwood then competed in the women’s novice single sculls and guided herself to victory.

Blackwood moved up a section on the Sunday and dominated, winning two rounds and her final.

The ladies crew of Annie Williams, Ruth Davies, Dawn Evans, Geraldine Calcraft coxed by Sheron Dean Lucas won the women’s Veteran Coxed fours event.

Steve Randal was successful after rejoining his doubles partner Phil Davies to win in the coxless pairs final.

To complete the senior results, Phil Palmer and Mike Jones teamed up with competitors from Ironbridge and Llandaff to win in the Veteran E eights.

The junior academy had another successful weekend and the winning crews were Johan Lai who won J13 single sculls, Jess Crossman in women’s J12 single sculls, Catrin Morris and Megan Jephcote Wj12 double sculls, and j12 doubles Scot Morris and George Probert.

Previously, the Ross beginners won golds at Stratford. All the beginners had learnt to row at the Discover Rower during the Easter camp.

The Wj11 doubles was won by Tilly Lawson and Imogen Gray and in the quads Christina, Imogen Alice Reynolds and Jess Boon with Olivia Baynham Williams coxing narrowly beat another Ross crew of Jacoba Hale, Megan Jepcote, Jenny Reeves and Tilly Lawson with Jess Crossman Coxing.

In the Wj12 open class, the new starters were teamed up with more experienced rowers.

The event was won by Catrin Morris and Jacobe Hale who narrowly beat Olivia Baynham Williams and Christina Stevenson.

In the quads event, Megan Jephcote, Alice Reynolds Pippa England and Imogen Gray, coxed by Jess Crossman, vanquished a plucky Evesham crew.

Leading the charge for the boys were the experienced J12 quad of Johan Lai, George Probert, Dale Kernot and Nick Burden, coxed by Jess Crossman.

Having beaten Leicester in the semi-final they vanquished another plucky Ross crew. Jess then teamed up with Johan Lai to win J12 double sculls.

A boys J13 quad lost by six feet in the Thames Valley Park Regatta which attracted strong opposition from London.
