Two-wicket defeat off penultimate ball for Colwall

COLWALL suffered a two-wicket defeat with just one ball remaining in an exciting home clash with Stourbridge in Division 1 of the Crusader Worcestershire County League.

In reply to Colwall’s 219 all out, Stourbridge squeezed home in a thrilling finale in 49.5 overs. Spinners Charlie Griffiths (4-46) and Mike King (4-73) bowled superbly for Colwall but could not stop their side from an agonising defeat.

Earlier, Gareth Sharp led the way for Colwall with an unbeaten 94 and he was supported by Nick Panniers (36) before the fifth-placed hosts were dismissed in 49.5 overs.

Bromyard’s disappointing season continued with a losing draw at home to mid-table Worcester at Flaggoners Green. Worcester produced a powerful batting display to pile up 302-8 in a match reduced to 48 overs a side.

Rich Franklin (66), Nick Walker (38), Dan Keyte (37) and Ryan Wille (35) were Worcester’s leading contributors while Lakshan Rodrigo bagged 3-87.

Bromyard lost a couple of early wickets before captain Zahid Saeed (56) and Greg Leighton (31) repaired the damage and took the hosts to 199-8.

Liam Weston (4-40) was Worcester’s most successful bowler, while former Colwall spinner James Wagstaff took 2-34.

A maiden club century from all-rounder Andy McGuire led Monmouth to an emphatic seven-wicket win at struggling Avoncroft in Division 2.

McGuire (3-36) and Ian Mackinlay (4-30) helped to bowl out Avoncroft for 209 in the 48th over. D Apperley (77) offered resistance for Avoncroft.

Monmouth wasted little time at the crease and raced to victory in the 37th over.

Man-of-the-match McGuire cracked 115 and skipper Dan Head made 32 before David Teague (44 not out) and Josh Grey (16 not out) swept Monmouth to the target.

Tim Boulter smashed a century for promotion-hungry Wormelow who recorded a crushing five-wicket triumph at Chaddesley Corbett in Division 3.

Seamer Andrew Weston was also in superb form for the villagers and snapped up 6-52 to help dismiss Chaddesley for 193 in the 46th over.

Boulter blasted 16 fours and a six in his dominant innings and, backed up by Tom Bevan (24), Wormelow roared to victory inside 29 overs.

Despite the win, Wormelow have slipped to second in the table.

Burghill & Tillington’s Alex Hedges hit 97 and bagged 3-47 in their winning draw against Kidderminster Victoria at Brick Farm House.

Kingsley Morris (56) and Tim Walsh (46) also weighed in for Burghill who posted an imposing 276-5. The visitors closed on 197-5 from 41 overs.

Canon Frome consolidated their position at the top of Division 4 South with a narrow three-wicket home win over Barnards Green 3rd.

Frome dismissed the Malvern outfit for 147 in 38 overs and then brought up their victory in the 40th over.

Ross-on-Wye are struggling at the other end of the table after a four-wicket defeat at Cutnall Green.
