PARALYMPIC swimmers Sascha Kindred and Nyree Lewis will be part of a new scheme to inspire young athletes in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
Worcestershire and Herefordshire Olympic and Paralmypic Group will be launching their 2012 Olympic Ambassador Group this autumn.
Kindred, Lewis and the Hereford-based England and Great Britain blind football team will be among the county’s ambassadors.
Other ex-Olympic athletes or national standard athletes hoping to compete at the 2012 Games, and wanting to inspire Herefordshire people can also join the scheme.
Young athletes gaining national or international level recognition can be considered for the Junior Ambassador scheme.
Once the scheme has been launched, schools and community groups from the county will be able to contact the ambassadors and ask for a visit.
Stephen Ashton, who is co-ordinating the scheme in Herefordshire, said: “This is a two counties initiative and therefore we would encourage the athletes to cross the county if an appropriate opportunity presents itself.
“We have 11 individual ambassadors confirmed and the blind football squad as a collective.”
Athletes from Herefordshire wanting to be a 2012 Olympic Ambassador should contact Peter Turvey on 07795 332508 or e-mail: pturvey@worcestershire.gov.uk
