THE new owners of Hereford Snooker & Pool Centre want to give youngsters a big break in the sport.
Managing partners John and Bruce Jones have introduced a summer holiday initiative for people aged under 18 years.
The duo have taken over the Coningsby Street centre which was previously operated by Lane Leisure.
“We are looking at things like father-and-son or family competitions, family membership rates and lunchtime deal rates for youngsters from the college,” said Bruce Jones.
“We already have after-school rates in place and we are also looking at starter packs, including tuition.”
The club, which was previously called Hereford Snooker Centre, had been closed for two weeks.
But the new management team are delighted to welcome back members who will have their memberships automatically transferred to the new club.
“One great thing already in place for youngsters is the three-quarter size table which is great to learn on,” said Bruce Jones.
“We have a summer holiday initiative in which under-18s can play as much as they want during the day between now and when the schools go back for £10-a-week.”
Two former employees, David Lane and John Meredith, have returned to help drive the club forward and are recruiting staff.
Members are being canvassed on their ideas for the future direction of the club and a series of improvements are being planned for later in the summer.
The new management intend to introduce other traditional games to the club.
“We will be adding American pool and skittles and bringing back darts,” said Bruce Jones.
“We are also considering table football, quoits and giant jenga, all of which appeal to a younger audience.”
More details about the under-18 summer holiday scheme are available from Hereford Snooker & Pool Centre on 01432 270000.
