Lewis enters history books


DONOVAN Lewis will enter the record books as the player to take the first wicket and then score the first run for Herefordshire in the National Disability Cricket League with his performance in the game against Hampshire. Following defeat against Hampshire, Herefordshire earned a creditable draw with Dorset at Burghill & Tillington in the National Disability League.

Dorset scored 126-3 off 30 overs. Kevin Stuchberry was the pick of the Herefordshire bowlers with 3-35.

In reply, Herefordshire scored 69-5 with Sue Blake top scoring with 11. Kevin Stuchberry and Gavin Long held on for the last 11 overs to earn the draw.

Gavin Long, the Herfordshire team manager, said: "We have come a long way in a very short time, but it would be great to find some new players.”

l HEREFORD Cathedral School carried off the HSCA Under-12 David English Cup after a narrow two-wicket win over Bishop’s School in the final.

A well-crafted 24 not out from Charlie Scott and 19 from J Broadbridge lifted Bishop’s to 80-2 from their 20 overs at Bartestree & Lugwardine.

But a rapid 27 from Tom Porter and 13 from Harry Children spearheaded Cathedral’s reply.

Despite wickets tumbling and a superb run-out from Ollie Bon, Cathedral squeezed home. Borges and E Broadbridge bowled well for Bishop’s and bagged two wickets each.

Cathedral will now represent Herefordshire in the National competition in 2010.
