HEREFORD Rowing Club sent a smaller than usual contingent to the National Veteran Rowing Championships at the National Watersports Centre, Nottingham.
Mark Fenton and Dominic Churcher were competing for the first time in the Veteran C Coxless Pairs and were unfortunate to just miss out on qualification for the final in the tightly-fought race.
Helen Phillips, Veronica Preedy, Alex Champ and Clare Fenton competed in the Women's Veteran C Coxless Fours and despite leading at one point were beaten into second place by an Agecroft/Bedford composite crew.
The ladies then joined Robin Morris in the cox's seat of their coxed four to beat Eton Excelsior, Lea, Monmouth and Belfast in the Women's Veteran C Coxed Fours keeping up their winning form of previous years in the coxed four events.
The final race of the day for a Hereford crew was in the Mixed Veteran B Double Sculls. Husband and wife, Mark and Clare Fenton had a closely fought race all the way down the 1,000-metre course but were beaten in the end by half-a-length by a Lincoln/RAF composite crew.
