TWO Herefordshire sporting stars have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.
Paralympian swimmer Sascha Kindred was awarded an OBE for services to disabled sport.
Ross-on-Wye Swimming Club head coach Trixie Pulsford has received an MBE.
Kindred has enjoyed a remarkable 12 months which includes two gold medals for Great Britain at the Paralympics in Beijing.
The 31-year-old broke two world records in September and secured gold medals in the 100m breaststroke and the 200m individual medley.
Kindred has also got engaged to fellow Paralympian swimmer Nyree Lewis.
“It has been a fantastic 12 months and I am very much looking forward to competing in 2009,” said Kindred.
Pulsford’s MBE follows 30 years as head coach with Ross-on-Wye Swimming Club.
She has been honoured for her voluntary service to sport in Herefordshire.
Pulsford has worked as a county welfare officer and helped produce swimmers to compete in national competitions and the Commonwealth Games.
She obtained Swim 21 status for the swimming club and, until recently, was the president of the Worcester County Swimming Assoc-iation. Pulsford was highly commended in the Service to Sport category of the Herefordshire Sport 2007 sports personality awards.
