HEREFORD Hockey Club remain in a relegation scrap which is due to do down to the wire after suffering their seventh draw of the season last weekend.

The men's first team played out a 6-6 thriller in the De Cymru & The Marches 1 league against relegation rivals Cirencester on Saturday and despite being two goals ahead for the majority of the game a late leveller would leave them frustrated.

Head Coach Andy Rogers was left frustrated after his side failed to kill of the game and clinch a vital three points in the relegation battle.

"At the end of the day we have had too many draws," said Rogers.

"We went 3-1 up and then were 5-3 up on Saturday but didn't manage to hold on. It has been pretty tough recently but we have played very well with and are undefeated in four games with one win and three draws, but it hasn't really been good enough to get us out of the bottom two.

"We have got to create our own luck a little bit and seven draws this season isn't good enough to stay up. Player availability week on week hasn't been there which makes it tough as we are playing about competitive teams. A few of them seven draws we should have been winning and if we had done then we would be feeling safe now.

"We have won four and drawn seven and if that was the other way around then we would be six points better off which is the difference between us in 11th and 7th."

Midfielder Daniel Makuaruk netted a hat-trick for Hereford on Saturday against Cirencester while Stewart Goodarzi netted a brace and George Belton the other.

However, Cirencester rallied and levelled the game to break the host's hearts and keep them two points above Hereford.

This weekend Rogers' side head to basement side Stroud who could prove a tough opposition after narrowly losing 3-2 at Whitchurch last weekend.

"We have got three games left and need to try and win every game starting on Saturday," added Rogers.

"It's not going to be easy but we will give it our best shot."
