KINGTON Town manager Sam Bowen admits that he underestimated the strength of West Midlands (Regional) League Division One.

When Bowen took over at Mill Street last November, the club only had two wins to their name and were third-from-bottom.

Only three more victories have been achieved since, with the Yellows only drawing 0-0 at home to rock-bottom Wyrley on Saturday.

"We didn't have the conviction when taking our chances and that's what happens when you've got an inexperienced side," said Bowen.

"But injuries are killing us at the minute.

"We were missing six players on Saturday and that takes its toll.

"We've got 16, 17, 18-year-olds trying to get the experience of playing men's football and it's not a bad league – I underestimated it.

"I don't think we absolutely dominated the game, but I do think we were the better side.

"Wyrley will probably not be the worst side we'll play, even though they're bottom.

"But it's a work in progress here and we're not far away from being half decent team."

Elsewhere, mid-table Bromyard Town were hammed 5-0 at home to Newport Town.

In the Premier Division, a first half goal from James Hancock helped Wellington to a 1-0 win over Bewdley Town, while Hereford Lads Club were beaten 3-1 by Shifnal Town.

Ash Lear scored for Lads Club.
