THE first meeting of the new season at Hereford Racecourse has been transferred to Worcester.

The Cider & Sausage Day was set to be held on Tuesday, but with temperatures set to hit 23C between now and the day of racing, course staff feel they cannot provide safe jumping ground.

"Unfortunately, due to Hereford's restricted irrigation capacity, warm and dry weather forecast for this weekend and the likelihood if unsuitable going, the fixture due to take place ib October 17 has now been transferred to Worcester," reads a statement by the British Horseracing Authority.

"Understandably, this transfer may raise questions due to Worcester's high non-runner rate following quick ground experienced on Thursday, October 12.

"However, under the circumstances, it was clear that the most sensible option was to re-stage the fixture as nearby as possible.

"The track is presently watering ahead of Tuesday and it is our expectation and belief that suitable ground will be provided for runners on Tuesday."

A Hereford Racecourse statement adds: "We apologise for any inconvience and hope you will enjoy racing at Hereford Racecourse throughout the season ahead."

Anyone who has purchased admission tickets or advance packages can be used at Worcester or transferred to another fixture at Hereford.

That will be the same for hospitality clients.

Anyone wishing to transfer their ticket can email info@hereford-racecourse.co.uk

The next meeting at Hereford will now be Tuesday, November 14.
