WELLINGTON hotshot Josh Hunt has targeted 30 goals this season as the villagers target promotion from West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.

Hunt opened his league account on Saturday with a hat-trick as Welly thrashed rivals Pegasus Juniors 6-1.

Gary Stevens' side finished fifth last season, but are confident of doing better this season and being in the promotion shake-up.

"Two years ago I got 28 and last season 29 so hopefully I will get that 30 mark this year," said Hunt.

"It's always lovely to get a few goals.

"I got 10 in pre-season and it's nice to start the season with a few goals.

"Hopefully I will now get a few more for the rest of the season."

Paul Jones and Matt Williams also chipped in with goals against Peggy and Hunt believes the partnership will be vital for Wellington this season.

"Working as a three is vital for us in terms of getting goals," he said.

"I think we work quite well together, like against Pegasus where we were playing off each other and giving each assists.

"We have been doing well so far and did well in pre-season.

"Hopefully, we'll take it on into the league season and the different cup competitions and progress from there.

"We have got a lot of quality in this side from back to front and have new signings like Jack Lewis, Steve [Goodwin], Brendan [Hackett] and Luke Griffiths.

"I think the aim is to be as high as possible and the aim is definitely to be in that top two or three."

Lewis has joined Wellington from Pegasus after the latter club decided to feature a number of young players this season.

"I started off at Wellington and was here for three years," said Lewis.

"I was then at Peggy for five years after that, but thought I would come back and give it another goal.

"No disrespect to Peggy, they're looking at having a young side and I've still got a few years to go.

"So I wanted to play at Wellington."

Wellington went into the game on the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Wednesfield, but bounced back in the perfect way.

"We were shocking in that game and I think we lost it before we even turned up," added Lewis.

"We thought it was going to be easy and they came at us and were 3-0 down before we knew about it.

"We would like to be up there, but we have to show that every game we play is against the top of the league side."

Four goals in the space of 17 spaces knocked the stuffing out of Pegasus as Wellington raced into a 4-0 half-time lead.

Matt Williams opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Paul Jones curled home a stunning second six minutes later.

And when Josh Hunt followed up his effort after he initially hit a post in the 37th minute, the game was effectively over.

There was still time for Jones to double his tally for the afternoon in first half stoppage time.

Adam Newbury went close to making it 5-0 four minutes after the break, but his shot hit the underside of the bar, before both sides scored within a minute of each other.

Hunt made it 5-0 to Wellington in the 75th minute before George Andrews scored a stunning goal for Peggy.

However, Hunt had the last word when he completed his hat-trick 10 minutes from time.
