WELLINGTON manager Gary Stevens is hopeful of signing striker Cory Hyde tonight.

Hyde has linked up with Wellington during pre-season after leaving West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division rivals Pegasus Juniors.

The prolific marksman missed the last few months of last season after sustaining serious knee injury against Wellington in January.

"He's been out for a long time, but he's a very good player," said Stevens.

Wellington – who sre due to face Ludlow tonight in a friendly – beat Bishops Cleeve 2-1 last Saturday.

Josh Hunt scored both of Welly's goals and has hit the ground running during pre-season.

"Josh has been on fire, but I would like one or two other players chipping in with goals," added Stevens.

"We could have been 4-0 up after 20 odd minutes, but we missed a couple of chances.

"In the second half they changed their formation, which was what we needed because the players have to sometimes change the way they play to suit the game."

Wellington finished fifth last season and Stevens has targeted another good campaign.

"I want to finish as high as we can, but we've got a very tough first month," he said.

"Last season, Haughmond and Wolverhampton Sporting Community got off to a flier, so when they opened up a 10 point lead early on, it was tough to catch up."
