WESTFIELDS manager Sean Edwards was pleased with the way his side played in a 1-0 pre-season defeat at higher-graded Shortwood United on Saturday.

A solitary goal from Levi Cox in the 64th minute won the game for the Southern League South & West side, but Edwards felt his team dominated the majority of the game.

"We should have comfortably been in front by the time they scored, but their keeper made some good saves," said Edwards.

"It was a really good workout for us and the football we played was good."

Richard Greaves and Aidan Thomas saw point-blank efforts brilliantly saved in the first half, while Kane Kahaki cleared dangerous crosses away at the other end.

Then on the stroke of half time, Westfields winger Ben Miller went close with a suburb shot.

New signing Carlos Moreira came off the bench for Westfields after the break, but it was Shortwood who took the lead when Cox calmly slotted home.

Greaves then saw an effort cleated off the line, while the home keeper kept out two menacing crosses as Westfields put skipper Phil Glover up front in an effort to add more attacking threat.

Westfields are next in action tonight when they visit Bishops Cleeve before having a home clash against Caersws this Saturday, kick-off 4pm.
