PRESTEIGNE manager Shaun Harris has targeted promotion after joining Spar Mid-Wales League Division Two side Presteigne.

Harris has replaced outgoing boss Tom Ammonds following a coaching role at Hay St Mary's and believes there are a number of good young players at the club.

"It will be a bit of a building process, but hopefully we can get the out at the first attempt and get the promotion," said Harris.

"That is what we are looking at and with a lot of 16 to 21-year-olds, there is something to work with.

"We are training twice a week and everyone seems happy to do that."

Hay will also be in Division Two next season after the club opted for relegation following a number of player departures.

"They had a really strong squad, but the boys found the travelling difficult, so didn't have that commitment," explained Harris.

"Therefore the team broke up because of it.

"You've got some teams that aren't as strong as others, but you have some good sides in there but you're always going to get three or four sides that are really pushing and want to progress."

Presteigne will start their campaign on August 12 with an away trip to Talgarth Town, while Hay go to Dyffryn Banw and Newbridge-on-Wye host Montgomery Town.

In Division One, Radnor Valley kick things off on Friday, April 11 with a home game against Llandrindod Wells, while Knighton Town are at Llanidloes Town the following day.

The Mid-Wales (League) South gets underway on August 19, with Hay St Mary's Reserves home to Penybont Reserves and Knighton Town Reserves going to Llandrindod Reserves.
