GOALSCORING hero Josh Hunt believes Wellington can take great pride from their draw against Hereford.

The villagers drew 1-1 against their higher-graded opponents, with Hunt on the scoresheet for Gary Stevens' side.

"It was a really good game and I think we did ourselves proud," said Hunt.

"It was a strong 11 from Hereford, so it shows the effort and work rate that we put it and it's a good start to our pre-season.

"There are some things we need to brush up on in training, but I'm sure Gary and Jon Pugh will sort that out."

Hunt capitalised on a mistake from Hereford goalkeeper Oliver Davies to open the scoring for Welly in the 13th minute.

"They lost the ball then won it back before the centre-half cleared it to the keeper," explained Hunt.

"The keeper tried to kick it, but missed it and I put it in the back of the net.

"It was great for me to get start my goal tally."

Wellington finished fifth in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division last season and Hunt thinks a promotion push could be on the cards.

"We did really well last season and we want to make sure we do better and finish higher than fifth next season," said Hunt.

"Personally, I think we should be pushing for promotion and that will be the aim.

"Gary helped last year and now Jon has come on board.

"They have got massive experience and knowledge between them and there is great morale in the changing room."

New players at Wellington include Luke Griffiths and Jack Lewis, who have made the short trip from Pegasus Juniors, and Brendan Hackett and Steve Goodwin, who have come from Hay St Marys.
