HEREFORDSHIRE CC will be looking to build on their promising display against Shropshire when they entertain Dorset in their latest Minor Counties Championship clash at Colwall, starting on Sunday.

The county's young team had been just one wicket from victory against Shropshire at Whitchurch when time was called after a strong all-round showing.

They will, however, be without Chris Whittock who, after scoring 55 and 96 against Shropshire, is unavailable due to work commitments.

But Jamie Harrison, who missed the Shropshire after scoring a superb unbeaten 135 in the first match of the season against Cheshire, is again available for selection and will open the batting with skipper Matt Pardoe.

"We have stuck with the same team as it would have been very hard to drop anyone after the last performance," said chairman of selectors Ian Macklin.

"As far as possible, we have stuck with younger players and those from the immediate vicinity.

"But we are aware that it is largely a very inexperienced side so we have to keep our fingers crossed that they will continue to perform above their level.

"These players have the potential to have a long and interesting career at Minor Counties level and perhaps even higher."

With a number of young players in their side, Herefordshire will hope that all-rounder Peter Burgoyne can maintain the excellent form he showed, with both bat and ball, against Shropshire.

Going in at number three, Burgoyne scored 94 and 117 as well as picking up seven wickets in the match.

He has been in splendid form in the strong Derbyshire County League, too, where he has already scored more than 800 runs at an average of 102 for his club Denby, as well as picking up 23 wickets.

Burgoyne, however, received excellent back-up from his younger team-mates against Shropshire with wicket-keeper batsman Ian Bullock compiling a maiden half-century and collecting three stumpings while Taylor Pugh was just two short of his own first county half-century when the declaration came in the second Herefordshire innings.

Herefordshire: Matt Pardoe (capt), Jamie Harrison, Peter Burgoyne, Benny Ellis, Ian Bullock, Barney Morgan, Tom Hage, Taylor Pugh, Jack Taylor, Jamie McIlroy, Dan Conway.
