EASTNOR captain Tareq Jamil says his team are up for the challenge in their quest to return to the Birmingham & District Premier League.

The county side have sustained back-to-back relegations, but a strong start in Worcestershire County League Division One means they should be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

"Our main aim this season is to push for promotion," said Jamil.

"It is not a easy task but we are up for the challenge and have strengthened our side accordingly.

"We have managed to recruit a few new faces, like Waqas Ahmed, Mohammad Hasnain, Raynaldo Estwick and Aarsh Jha, who will be leading our batting department this season. "In terms of bowling, Sajid Ali has made his return for Eastnor and has already picked up few wickets.

"We are currently missing Shahid Ahmed due to his back injury, but he is very keen to get back in action and we are counting the days for his return.

"Shahid will not only strengthen our team but also will bring lots of experience.

"We have made a decent start and now we need to carry the momentum and win more games."

Last Saturday, Eastnor beat county rivals Burghill, Tillington & Weobley by four wickets.

Burghill, Tillington & Weobley made a decent start thanks to an opening stand of 88 from Owen Morgan and Jacob James, but the away side then collapsed and were all out for 117.

However, Eastnor struggled to chase their target down in the early stages and were reeling at 64-4.

But Jamil's unbeaten stand of 33 saw them over the line.

"It was a good result for us but we could have done better in batting department," admitted Jamil.

"Also, it is fair to say, Burghill had a decent bowling line up and was better than what we have faced in past few games."

Colwall, meanwhile, stay rooted to the foot of the table after a narrow two-wicket defeat by Worcester.

Still without several senior players and a late arriving overseas all-rounder, Colwall once again put themselves in a winning position only to let Worcester off the hook in the closing overs of a fluctuating contest which went to the final over before they conceded the winning boundary.

Joe Blight went early on for Colwall, but Nick Brown and Ben Cooke on 63 for the second wicket.

Cooke went on to score 61, with captain Ben Wheeler adding another 41.

But the innings gradually folded to 193 all out; former Eastnor player Jabran Khalid taking 5-40 for Worcester.

Colwall sent down 24 wides when Worcester batted, but took enough wickets to put the visitors in trouble at 111-6.

Mike Gooch took three wickets for Colwall, but Worcester got over the line with five balls remaining.
