LEDBURY boxing prospect Alex Florence made his mark on the professional boxing scene with a maiden victory against experienced fighter Kristian Laight.

Florence, nicknamed Pinky, faced a tough debut professional bout at the PlayFootball Arena in Swindon against 36-year-old Laight, who has 265 fights to his name.

However, Florence won unanimous following a flawless four rounds of fighting showing bags of skill to avoid being hit.

Florence said: "I went in there with a game plan boxed my four rounds to get experience and had no intention of stopping him.

"He is a very experienced boxer so getting four rounds in and getting hit four times in four rounds showed that I'm very skilled and very fast. A big thank you to all my fans, close friends and family that came to support me on the night.

"I can't wait for the next one as I have proved that I'm ready for the professional game."

Coach and father Fred Florence has trained Alex since he was six-years-old.

He added: "He has gone through the amateur ranks picking up experience and and titles.

"He is so ready for his professional game as this showed. He will go a very long way with his dedication, motivation and skill. He fought a flawless four rounds but nothing that shocked me.

"I know what is coming in the future Alex 'pinky' Florence will shock the world and he will show his full potential. I'm very proud of his achievements as he has trained so hard and so long for it.

"Get ready world, pinky is here to stay."

Florence's shorts are sponsored by 'bling 4 the ring' but he is currently looking for further sponsors.
