HEREFORD Colts finished their North Midlands Colts season in style by clinching the Under-19 Colts cup.

The Wyesiders lifted the trophy after beating Luctonians' Colts 26-3 in a close final.

Hereford got off to a great start turning over Luctonians’ kick-off and applying pressure deep into the Luctonians 22 for the first ten minutes. They were unfortunate not to come away with a try, having crossed the line three times, all adjudged by the officials to be 'held up'.

The following 15 minutes was end to end rugby with both sides defending well before Hereford centre Isaac Beamond made a telling break. An offload to Bryn Goodall set-up a try under the posts. Kieran Twig converted giving Hereford a 7-0 half-time lead.

In the second half Hereford continued to play with confidence and another break by Beamond again put Goodall away, he outpaced the defence for a try in the corner.

Luctonians then replied and reduced the deficit with a penalty from in front of the posts to make it 12-3.

Hereford increased their pressure and secured the victory when prop Alex Kalwaites made a strong break before offloading to flanker Troy Brocklebank who crossed the whitewash unchallenged, Twig added the extra points.

In the final minutes Luctonians threw caution to the wind but spilled the ball which was gleefully collected by wing Lewis Turner, who ran in unopposed. Twig slotted the conversion taking the final score line to 26-3.

Team manager, Di Hickinbotham said: “This was a great squad performance and a fitting end to a fantastic season for the young Hereford side.”
