BROCKHAMPTON bowed out of the Graham Williamson Trophy at the first hurdle following a six-wicket loss to Walsall.

Adam Hewlett and Henry Langford both produced fine knocks for the villagers, but Samuel Mills and Luke Stynes ultimately did the damage with the ball as Brockhampton were skittled out for 179.

And an excellent unbeaten stand of 102 off just 100 balls from Edward Denham saw the away side home.

Walsall won the toss and decided to put Brockhampton into bat.

And their decision was rewarded when opener Ashley Bullock went for one having only faced two balls.

Nevertheless, an excellent partnership by Hewlett and Langford steadied the ship.

Langford made 42 before he was caught and bowled by Mills, while Hewlett went on to make 50.

Hewlett's dismissal proved to be crucial as a mid-order collapse saw Brockhampton go from 100-3 to 125-7.

Alex Hinkley and Dominic Badger scored 16 and 24 respectively, but Brockhampton's total always looked like it was going to be too short.

Brockhampton did give themselves hope when they reeled Walsall in at 30-2, but Denham took the game away from the hosts.

Brockhampton shared the wickets, with Jamie McIlroy, Badger, Langford and Hewlett snapping up one apiece.

The villagers are back in the Birmingham & District Premier Division and they start their campaign with a trip to Wolverhampton on April 29.
