BROMYARD Rugby Club’s John Parker says he has never witnessed a rugby game that finished 0-0 after 80 minutes.

The Herefordshire side needed a dramatic 99th minute try from Jarrod Kidston in extra-time to beat Market Drayton 7-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the North Midlands Vase.

Parker said the away side would have won the tie if it remained level after extra-time, so Bromyard went all out to get the win.

“To be fair there were chances for both sides kicking wise and they had three or four penalties,” said Parker.

“But they missed them and we also missed one.

“It was a wet pitch and more of a forwards game, which made it a bit of a slow game.

“Both teams were evenly matches but in the last minute of extra-time, we won a scrum and the ball went out to our number 10 who scored a brilliant try.”

Toby Rivers converted to seal the win.

Bromyard are also riding high in Midlands 4 West (South) and have only lost twice this season.

The Clive Richards Sports Ground based club were overtaken at the top by Alcester in their last game and are five points ahead of third-placed Stoke Old Boys.

“Our last game is against Stoke Old Boys, so that looks like it will be a big game,” added Parker.

Greyhound are also through to the quarter-finals of the North Midlands Vase after beating Aston Old Edwardians 32-28.

The city side will now host Birmingham Civil Service on a date to be arranged.
