THE respective captains have driven in at Kington Golf Club.

Mike Waywood takes over as 2017 men's captain, Jenny Kelly is the lady's captain, Tom Ritchie becomes the junior captain and Glynn Wictome is the seniors' captain.

The past captains each reported on their enjoyable year and wished the incoming captains a happy and successful year.

Last year's ladies’ captain, Pip Frost presented a cheque for £5,663.64 on behalf of the club, to Martha Trust, which was her chosen charity.

The cheque was gratefully received by director of care Nicky West, who explained that the money would help the residents take part in a new gardening scheme which is being launched this year.

A nine hole medal competition preceded the drive-in, which was won by Will Skyrme with a score of 38-9-29.

Second place went to Brian Morgan (33-3.5-29.5), while Dai Morgan (39-9-30), Les Baker (39-8.5-30.5) and Ray Evans (34-3-31) completed the top five places.

Matt Atkinson, Brian Morgan, Dave Bradley, Martin Blackaller and Mark Houcher each had a two, while Les Baker had two.

The ladies competition was by Chris Evans with a score of 49-9.5-39.5m with Pip Frost (47-6.5-40.5) finishing second.

A raffle helped rise £310 for the British Heart Foundation, which is the captain's charity for this year.

Jenny Taylor marked her first competition as ladies captain with a convincing win in a 12-hole stableford competition.

Her score of 23 points beat Teresa Godbert (17), while Jane Cowles' 25 points was enough to win Division Two, ahead of Pat Smith (22).

Elsewhere, Chris Evans came top in a January Medal competition with a score of 72.

Second place went to Pat Smith (86), with Kay Taylor (89) third.
